Giovan Battista Moroni – Artistic Itineraries

Among the numerous artists born in ValSeriana, the most famous is Giovan Battista Moroni, born in Albino around 1520. He wins the nobleness of his time with his portraits and he adorned numerous churches of the valley with his religious works of art.
The itinerary we propose starts from Albino, from the parish church of San Giuliano Martire and the paintings Crocifisso tra i santi Bernardino e Antonio da Padova (1573-75) e Trinità (1555). Nearby, in Bondo Petello, the parish church hosts the Madonna col Bambino in gloria e le sante Caterina d’Alessandria e Barbara.
Continuing to the route for the upper valley the visitor arrives in Fiorano al Serio where he can admire the polittico di San Giorgio in the parish church of San Giorgio Martire.
Dating from 1564 is the commission for the altarpiece Madonna col Bambino in trono e i ss. Pietro, Paolo e Giovanni Evangelista for the church of San Pietro in Parre.
Later but also worthy of admiration is the Madonna con il Bambino e i ss. Andrea e Pietro realized for the parish church of Fino del Monte.
Returning to Bergamo a compulsory stop is the church of Santi Sette Fratelli Martiri in Ranica which hosts a polyptych with the Battesimo di Cristo e il Crocifisso con la Vergine e Santi.
