The refuge Cassinelli is situated at the foot of the Presolana, the “Queen of the Orobie”: in a panoramic position it enjoys a splendid view of the valley below and of the fascinating calcareous massif. Following the signs for Castione della Presolana we reach the Passo della Presolana (1297m) and we can park your car. On the left hand side of the road there is the beginning of a cart track going slightly up ( the sign CAI 315 for “Baita Cassinelli-Cappella Savina-Grotta dei Pagani-Cima Presolana”). We enter the wood and continue as far as the second curve where we leave the road and take a wide path which goes through the pine forest. Having reached about 1,500m altitude we come out of the wood and continue going slightly upwards among sparse bushes. From here we can already admire the unmistakable and stupendous mass of the Presolana with its rocky walls. We reach the end of the wood and enter a zone of pastures; a little ahead, on a prominent rock, we can see the signs for Baita Cassinelli. Go up again for a brief stretch as far as a junction, at this point we can continue along the grassy ridge or go and take the mule track on the left which leads to the refuge Baita Cassinelli (1568m)

Val Sanguigno is the green oasis with the highest biodiversity in the Park of the Orobie of Bergamo. The spectacle of the river Sanguigno is charming: the water flows down at different levels forming transparent pools of green and blue water. We arrive by car at the town of Valgoglio (929m), pass the Town Hall and we follow the only road which goes beyond the houses. Keeping the left we reach the hydro electric power station at Aviasco (929m) ( N.B. you must get a parking ticket at the automatic machine near the Town Hall of Valgoglio). We leave the car and we follow the signs which lead down, below the hydro electric power station and then cross the river Goglio over a small bridge. The path goes up steeply through a wood (15min), we come out at the barn of Sersen and shortly after we join a mule track which also comes from the hydro electric power station of Aviasco. Take the good mule track on the left with which we can reach and walk along by the river which flows down from the Val Sanguigno. Go up as far as the locality of the “little waterfalls” and, continue through a lovely beech wood, soon we arrive in sight of the Refuge Gianpace (1,331m)

A trail in contact with nature observing fabulous falls of crystal water, the potholes of the giants ( formed throughout the centuries by the force of the water) and the rich vegetation which characterizes this valley. You can drive to the centre of Vertova: from the square Vittorio Venetotake the road of the Val Vertova (on the left), which winds along the river for 2.7km as far as Cà Rosèt. Now the road becomes a dirt road and, beyond the café of GAV Vertova ,after about a hundred metres it is possible to park your car. The mule track continues along the river and, after having forded the river several times, you arrive at the waterfall of the Val de Gru. Continue until, crossing a bridge, you reach the fields of Merèl. Then how to continue? ( From this point, for those who are fit, there is the possibility to continue along the path leaving the river and walking up towards the left.)

Rifugio Curò https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/rifugio-curo/ Fri, 21 Oct 2016 09:56:37 +0000 https://www.valseriana.eu/en/?post_type=sport&p=15491 Rifugio Curò is placed in a beautiful valley next to the enchanting lake Barbellino, from emerald waters. We recommend the hike during the five planned annual openings (June to October) of the Serio Falls, the highest in Italy, which are formed at the opening of the dam (for information www.turismovalbondione.it)

Following signs for Valbondione reach the Sports Palace (Via T. Pacati) and parked the car (940 m). From the car park turn left along the county road, at the first fork we keep to the right and continue always on the asphalt in the direction Lizzola.

After the first bend to the right, after about 200 meters, we take on the left via Curò; after a few hundred meters the road becomes a dirt road and into the woods with regular slope. Following the side of the valley we share and, after going through some valleys, we reach the lower station of the cable car that transports food to the shelter. From this point the dirt road becomes a mule track, we leave the forest and continue to climb. At one point, after having bent sharply to the south (1600 m) and different path curves, we cross the path CAI 305/306 (1748 m); continue to the left, cross a “plane” suddenly dug into the mountain rock Worm and reach Rifugio Curò (1915 m).

Close to Ardesio take the road on the left and arrive at Valcanale. After the town proceed for about a kilometer along the road which goes up the valley and as soon as you can park your car. A bit before the bridge over the River Acqualina, on the right, follow the cart track ( CAI 220) which goes up through a pine wood (1,117m). Continue to follow the same road, in about an hour you arrive at the destination: the refuge Alpe Corte.

N.B. A bit before the refuge there is a path on the left ( CAI 218A) which goes up toAple di Neel: this part of the trail, together with the path CAI 218 (as far as the Pass of Branchino) and the path CAI 219 (as far as the farmhouse of Mezzeno) is called the Path of the Butterflies and is equipped with relevant notice boards illustrating the naturalistic peculiarities of the area.

Proceed on the right, you can see a sign on a high tension pylon (223/238), first on a slight slope then downhill until the road divides, this is Loc. Cascine Sinelli (1,238m) visible on your left a little higher up. Continue following the signs, straight downhill ( on the left the road goes up to reach other farmhouses a bit higher up, and then finishes) for about 20m as far as the end of the  dirt road from which start two paths. Now take the path on the left ( the one on the right would take you to the refuge Alpe Grem, as indicated by the signs) immediately you reach another junction where you proceed straight on and also at the next junction where your path n.223 separates from the path n.238 which goes up on the left to the Baita Camplano. Continue on the right as indicated by the signpost and guided by the signs, with gentle curves, through a beautiful beech wood, you come out in the pastures of theBaita di Mezzo di Grem (1,457m) where shortly you arrive. Going up easily proceed along the road which serves the farmhouse, until you quickly reach the junction with the path 239 which goes up to Loc. Plazza d’Oneta. Now follow the path which goes up on the left through the pastures ( see the signposts) Beyond a pool for watering the cattle, you reach, with a bit of an effort, the Baita Alta di Grem (1,631m). from the Baita you follow the signs on the right, which in about half an hour lead you to the small but pretty Bivacco Mistri (1,780m an emergency shelter, always open. Not to be missed is the festival of the bivacco every last Sunday of July). Going North (see the map displayed) follow the path n. 223 now together with the path n. 263, to reach, in about 0.30min, the Bocchetta di Grem(1,976m) situated between the Grem and the summit of Foppazzi. Now go up on the left towards the nearby, and visible, cross of Grem (2,049m), which you can reach in about 15min (3 hours from the start), this cross, transported in pieces on men’s shoulders, was placed on the summit a long time ago in 1962 in memory of Don Severino Tiraboschi of Gromo. Having returned to the Bocchetta it is possible to climb up on the right the easy, grassy slopes of the summit of Fopazzi (2,097m), reaching the summit, with the same name as the stone, in about 0.20min.  Not far from Bergamo, the trekking is very rewarding from a naturalistic point of view, in as much, abounding herbaceous vegetation, allows you to see, in different times of the year, numerous and varied flowering Orchids and other floral species. One can reachMonte di Nese (Alzano Lombardo) by car. Starting from the car park behind the main church, the itinerary winds between this village and Canto Basso, running anti-clockwise around Monte Cavallo, and corresponds for some parts to the trail C.A.I. 531 and 533. The route is well indicated with specific signs indicating “Percorso della rana” (“Route of the Frog”).

Wolf Hiking Trail https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/wolf-hiking-trail/ Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:52:04 +0000 http://www2.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/percorso-del-lupo/ Close to Bergamo, there is this amazing itinerary immersed in nature, well indicated with signs which have the design of a “wolf”. The start is from via Fornaci at Busa di Nese (336m altitude), at the crossroads with via Fratelli Coria (the first part of the path CAI 531) near a small car park and a shrine. We go up along the path CAI 531, for about 10 minutes from the house “Burro” and you reach, with the path CAI 532, the characteristic hamlet of Olera (530m). We follow this path, which crosses longitudinally  all the historical hamlet and passes behind the main church (the church is worth a visit above all to see the important altarpiece by Giovanni Battista Cima da Conegliano, dated 1498). Then we follow the same road taken at the start, in the direction of the church of S. Rocco, situated not far from the town centre. After the last house, on the left, going up three steps, the path CAI 540 starts. Meanwhile going straight on the path CAI 532, in ten minutes going and coming, we can reach the Church of S. Rocco which is worth the small detour. Back at the three steps of the mule track for Canto Basso (CAI 540A) and for Monte di Nese (CAI 540), the first part is quite steep but then becomes easier. After about 200 metres there is a junction (a crucial hub), where on the right curves the path CAI 540, while on the left the path continues straight as the path CAI 540A. Take the 540A, the route from here continues with a slight uphill slope as far as a barn. We go to the right of the barn, and take the path which goes through a wood, as far as another barn. We go up again until where the wood becomes sparser and where it finishes on the hump of Canto Basso (900m altitude, with an extensive view over Poscante, Val Brembana and theOrobie Mountains); here we cross the path CAI 533 which leads to Monte di Nese. Having reached Monte di Nese (800m altitude, from which we can enjoy a splendid view of the Val Seriana) we return to the starting point with the path CAI 531 but going down. The itinerary is extremely interesting and rewarding, both for the characteristics of the countryside, typical of the mountains and the calcareous highlands, and the geological importance; around Monte Cavallo, which in the Cretaceous and Jurassic Period was deeply underwater.

When you reach Azzone, the hike begins from the main square of the town. Go past the church and continue beyond the sports ground along an easy cart track, among fields that, in spring, are coloured by a splendid display of flowers. The road continues level for about a kilometer, as far as the “Segheria” (Rasega), at the foot of the so-called “Paghera” one of the most beautiful fir forests of the Valley. Soon after you reach a junction, on the left a mule track leads to the hay barns of the Some and to Monte Negrino; continuing on the right, the road crosses the Val Giognaand enters the Reserve crossing it diagonally as far as the Giovetto marking the perimeter for quite a distance. Having passed the crossroads with a road, which going down on the right leads to the village of Dosso, the route opens up inside a splendid forest of silver fir. The road now becomes  somewhat easy and comes out into a beautiful clearing of pastureland; this is the locality “Giuadel” where it is possible to stop and use the facilities before reaching the Giovetto di Paline which is only a few hundreds of metres distant (1,275m).

Having taken the via Monte Cura, walk along the path that, with a constant slope, goes up to the place which is in memory of the Beata Morosini, today a place of pilgrimage, going through a thick wood of old, abandoned Horse Chestnut trees. Then you pass above the locality Cedrina and, among copses of woods and patches of fields, you reach the locality Fonteno. From the vast mountain pastures of Fonteno an extensive panorama opens up over the valley of Luio. Continue along the dirt road through a copse towards the Cascina della Corna, nearby which can be seen black marl rich in fossils from theRhaetian age, and from here you can reach the ridge, where you join up with the trail 513. You must take the trail 513 and, at the junction for Corna Clima (842m), this trail begins. Continue always overlapping the trail 513 as far as the locality Costa Misma, passing on the northern edge of the Regional Nature Reserve of Valpredina to reach the church of Santa Maria di Misma (824m), which is worth a visit. In this area a lot of trails converge ( coming mainly from the Val Cavallina) and here the climb up to the summit of Monte Misma begins. The path climbs steeply through the wood for about 1 km and emerges on the ridge ofMonte Misma. It continues then on the level along the ridge for a few hundred metres and ends at the summit, where there is a big cross (1,161m).

Now the road becomes a dirt road and, having passed the centre GAV (Gruppo Alpinistico Vertovese www. gavvertova.it/), after a few hundred metres, there is the possibility to park. The mule track continues always along the river and, after having forded the river several times, you arrive at the waterfall of the Val del Gru.( You can break your walk at any moment, stopping by the pools of water and enjoying the beautiful scenery). Continue until, having crossed a small bridge, you reach the fields of Merèl. Here the path leaves the river and goes up on the left, to meet it again beyond the spring, from where you can continue along the bottom of the valley. You cross a magnificent ravine, pass close to a farmhouse in the meadow “Morto basso”, and only a short distance before reaching the turning for the meadow “Morto alto”, the path diverges from the river. Passing over a crag with winding curves, you join up with the river again and come out in the valley of Sedernèl. Continue along the gravel road as far as the farmhouse Rondi ( joined with the path CAI 519) where, turning towards the right, you go up as far as a thick wood. Leave the path to go to the farmhouses and, after a steep slope uphill on the left towards the hill of Pradaccio, you arrive at the bivouac Testa (1,489m). For families with children there are different points recommended on the route, even though naturally the meadow, which is by the clearing where the tarmac road finishes, is a beautiful place to spend an enjoyable day, playing with the water from the river.

The disaster destroyed the villages of Bueggio, Azzone and other villages as far away as Darfo and caused the death of at least 356 people ( but the true number is still today uncertain).

You can drive as far as Pianezza (1,267m) in the municipality of Vilminore di Scalve. The path starts near the church ( near a fountain). After having crossed some fields and arriving at some farmhouses, turn right and take quite a flat road and follow it as far as a turning ( indications for the dam of Gleno). Take the path on the left and you arrive at some big pressure pipelines, once here, proceed up a beautiful mule track which, with steep turns, takes you up to 1,500m of altitude. The path now becomes nearly flat: after a first part through a wood you arrive at a spectacular part excavated from the rock and overhanging the valley. Proceed along this aerial walk and you shortly reach the grim ruins of the dam of Gleno (1,534m) and the lake behind it.

Valzurio And “Moschel” https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/valzurio-e-baite-del-moschel/ Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:10:29 +0000 http://www2.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/valzurio-e-baite-del-moschel/ The scenery that you reach opens up into a fascinating and uncontaminated  natural anti-theatre made up of fields, woods, stalls, barns and of course streams of crystal water.

You can reach Valzurio by car (Municipality Oltressenda Alta) where there is the possibility to have a bite to eat at the Baita Valle Azzurra (www.baitavalleazzurra.it); then proceed to the area of Spinelli and park your car (950m). Following the easy and wide dirt track walk in the direction of the Baite del Moschel (1,265m), first you reach the curious streams of cold air in the locality “Fopa Fosca” then you approach the hollow which houses the famous farmhouse in perfect Alpine style.

Instead of using the road you can follow an easy path through the woods. After theSpinelli (950m), at the first turning take the path on the right CAI 340 which goes up by the river Ogna through the beech woods, maples and rich springs. At the end of the path, you arrive at the large hollow where there is the Baite del Moschel (1,265m).

Val Sedornia and lago Spigorel https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/val-sedornia-lago-spigorel/ https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/val-sedornia-lago-spigorel/#respond Thu, 23 Jun 2016 10:58:31 +0000 https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/val-sedornia-lago-spigorel/ Val Sedornia is a little lateral valley of ValSeriana and it is easily accessible both from Tezzi Alti, a hamlet of Gandellino, and Spiazzi di Gromo.

The valley goes into fir tree woods until it opens out into wide verdant pastures. Val Sedornia is a little treasure to discover with its uncontaminated nature, its breathtaking landscapes and also its historical and artistic curiosities.

Near to the beginning of the path, from Tezzi Alti (969 mt), we enter Val Sedornia taking the forestal route which goes up, running over mountain huts and meadows, until it reaches the Chapel of San Carlo (1163 m). In the area there are also some ancient evidences such as the Masso Altare: it is a stone which dates back to a few centuries after the birth of Christ. The legend tells the stone was used from the Druids to make sacrificial rites.

Than we cross the torrent and we meet the path 313 which comes from Boario di Gromo. We keep following the forestal route which goes up cutting across the fields of Stalle Prato di Vigna and which turns right into the wood, at the altitude of 1350 m.

After 400 m, near to a deep narrow valley, we leave the forestal route and we take the path on the left which goes up and reaches first the Baita Vigna Vaga (1507 m) and then the Baita di Mezzo Vigna Vaga (1660 m). We keep going up and we reach the Lago Spigorel (1821 m) and, following the path in the direction of Monte Barbarossa, we meet the path 401 at an altitude of 2000 m. The return is on the same walk we made in the outward journey.

Cornagera https://www.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/cornagera/ Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:40:08 +0000 http://www2.valseriana.eu/en/sport-e-divertimento/cornagera/ From Bergamo drive up the Valle Serianaas far as Nembro, in the centre of which take the turning for Selvino, continue in the direction of Aviatico and having reached the locality of Cantul park your car. Follow viaCornagera and soon after take the path which, after a very steep first part, then goes through a dense wood. The route is indicated with the signs n.537 and after about thirty minutes you find yourself at the foot of a scree slope from where you can see, a little above, the white and calcareous turrets of the Cornagera which are in contrast to the green of the fields. You cross the path 521 and from this point the path has the double number (537-521). You go upwards through picturesque surroundings called “labyrinth” and taking care, follow the signs on the rocks. You can take the path 521 which leads to the top of Cornagera in 15 minutes, or you can remain on the path 537 and go towards the Poieto passing along the very narrow gorge of the “bus de la Carolina”. Having come out of the “labyrinth” you meet the forest road which comes up from Aviatico and after a last climb you arrive at the station of the cable car and the hotel of Aviatico. From here, going south, you arrive at Monte Poieto in a few minutes, on the top of which there is a small chapel. From here there is an extensive panorama of the Orobie Pre-Alps. From here you can return to Cantul on the road with which you came up.
